Sound Phobias

(Fear of Sounds)

A research study from the Bristol Veterinary University showed that 49% of dogs had fear of sounds. The majority of noise phobic dogs panicked during firework or thunder and many of them were frightened by any loud noise.

Dogs suffering from sound phobia are under chronic stress and frequently develop secondary behaviour problems, such as agoraphobia or even fear aggression.

The good news is that sound phobia can be treated. With our help your dog shall become the relaxed happy companion that does not run home or shakes, trembles or soils when hears a loud bang.

In most cases we use a Comprehensive Approach, which involves:

  • Restructuring the relationship
  • Substituting the undesirable behaviours with desirable ones
  • Desensitisation techniques
  • Gradual or swift changes in the husbandry of the animal and discuss the inclusion of possible pharmacological supports to be prescribed by the referring veterinary surgeon
